Professional Shekeres For Sale ($70/$85) in Springfield, Massachusetts For Sale

I have two professional fiberglass shekeres for sale. These instruments are based on the traditional gourd instruments from Nigeria which have become a central part of the Afro percussion traditions in Cuba and Brazil. Shekeres (sometimes also spelled chékere or chéquere) combine a percussive rattle of beads, seeds or shells against the body of the gourd with a distinctive bass tone produced by striking the bottom of the gourd.
When multiple shekeres are played together (as they might be in a traditional Afro-Cuban Toque de Güiro ceremony) the combination of bass tones from each of the three shekeres creates a distinctive and musical bass line. The shekere figures prominently in the Afro-Beat music of Fela Kuti and his disciples, the cutting edge music of the Cuban supergroup Irakere, and the Brazilian blocos Afros such as Olodúm.
Traditional shekeres were made of gourd, seeds and shells--all of which were extremely fragile. The two shekeres I am selling are both modern professional models constructed from fiberglass, synthetic twine and plastic beads for superior durability and sound. I’ve gigged extensively with these instruments so they are definitely used, but they have always been lovingly used, and never abused.
Each of these two shekeres are different in size, shape, weight, balance and sound.
